An Orange Moment: I Squeezed An Orange Today And It Made Me Cry

Early on Monday morning, I spent some time to extensively reflect on the blessing of food as it points us to Christ and God’s redemptive purpose for us demonstrated by the Cross. Today, my orange reminded me of this again.

I wanted to remember Jesus through partaking of the Holy Communion. I already had my crackers that I was going to use as the Body. I wanted to use orange juice as the Blood. I had an orange that I got yesterday and I just need to squeeze the juice into my cup. As I squeezed the orange, I thought about how doing that was a picture of the Body of Jesus Christ that squeezed for his blood to pour out for me. It was also a picture of how grapes are squeezed to produce their juices. The sense of God’s love just washed over me as I thought about this and I fell to the ground and cried, in gratitude.

I recently listened to a sermon by Pastor Joseph Prince about the firstborn blessing of Jacob. Isaac blessed Jacob that he would enjoy the dew of heaven and the fatness of the earth (Genesis 27:28). The dew there was a picture of Christ. He’s the dew of heaven. This was reflected in the story of Gideon and the sign he asked from God.

'Gideon said to God, “If you have really chosen me to rescue Israel, as you said, then give me proof. Here—I am placing a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If in the morning the dew is only on the wool but not on the ground around it, then I will know for sure that I’m the one you have chosen to rescue Israel, as you said.” And that is exactly what happened. When Gideon got up early the next morning, he squeezed the fleece and wrung out enough dew to fill a bowl. Then Gideon said to God, “Don’t be angry with me; let me speak just once more. Please let me ask you for one more sign. This time let the fleece be dry, and the ground wet.” That night God did what Gideon had asked. The next morning the fleece was dry, but dew covered the ground around it. '

Judges 6:36-40 TPT

Dew symbolizes God’s favour and anointing. (See the scriptural references in the Judges 6:37 TPT Commentary). Jesus was the wool that had the dew of heaven. When he came into the world, it was dry, much like the ground around the wool in the first sign. But on the cross, the divine exchange happened and the next day’s sign is a picture of that exchange. At the Cross, the wool was squeezed and the dew in it was transferred to the ground around it – Jesus’ favour and blessings was transferred to us – like the dew in the wool was transferred to the ground around it and the wool was dry, the next day.

So yes, as I squeezed out the juice from my orange, I thought about Jesus’s body being squeezed so that his blood would be shed for the forgiveness of my sins. Now, because my sins are forgiven, I have now received all of God’s righteousness, blessings and favour that He had.

This revelation of God’s love and the Gospel that came to me while I was squeezing my orange, is what made me cry. Tears of gratitude and joy and awe at God’s love for me. I still ate the body of the orange after squeezing out enough juice and as I ate, I thought of Jesus’s body that was broken for mine to be whole. Now, the same way I eat the body (fibre) of the orange to receive and enjoy its nutrients, it’s the same way I receive Jesus’s body for the nourishment of my spirit, soul and body. Even in the simple moments—like squeezing an orange—God’s love can overwhelm us. Have you ever had an ordinary moment become a powerful reminder of God’s love? He reveals Himself in the ordinary, making the mundane sacred. May we always see Him in the everyday moments.

Flip The Script On Education: A Reflection In Celebration of the International Day of Education 2025

Image from Freepik Happy International Day of Education!  On today's episode of Flip The Script, we're flipping the script on education, in honour of the International Day of Education and we're doing that by shattering the myth that education only happens in schools and classrooms. I believe in holistic, out-of-school and transformative education that changes us and empowers us to change the world and I believe this is God’s heart for education. Education doesn't only happen in schools and classrooms but in all of daily life, and we should never confine or limit education to that.  My case study today is one of the most inspiring young people I’ve ever learned about: 19-year-old Gitanjali Rao who’s a science enthusiast and an inventor and already invented her first science-b...

What’s Eating You?

Photo source: Stockcake What Are You Eating? What's Eating You? A slow meditation for those who want to be nourished, not just inspired. Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about food —but not just the kind that fills your stomach, but the kind that fills your soul. My dad used to say something I’ll never forget: “You can use good food to cure sicknesses.” It was wisdom passed down—his parents believed it. My mom and her parents too. They all knew the power of nourishment. They believe that if you eat well, your body naturally gets to heal, strengthen, and thrive. They knew this well and they lived by it. And it got me thinking: But what if the same is true for your soul? What if some of the fear, shame, anxiety, or spiritual fatigue you're feeling aren’t just about sin or stress or burnout—but about what we’ve been feeding or not feeding on ? Or what we’ve been starving from ? Or worse… what’s been poisoning us ? I’m learning that you can tell a lot about your spir...

Even Jesus Cooked Too: Meals Are Spiritual Spaces Where Jesus Meets Us

Photo source: ChatGPT Craving a Favorite Meal There’s something deeply satisfying about watching your favorite meal being made. The anticipation builds as you imagine the aroma, the texture, the first bite. I’ve found myself craving a favorite dish so intensely that I traveled a distance just to enjoy it. But that craving—that hunger—is more than just physical. It’s a mirror of something spiritual, something eternal. I think about how Jesus, my Lord and Savior, also cooked. That’s still such a beautiful, humbling thought to me. Even Jesus Cooked Too Did you know that Jesus made breakfast for His disciples after His resurrection? John 21 tells us that when the disciples had gone back to fishing, Jesus stood on the shore. H...
