What’s In a Day? Discovering God’s Wonder in the Everyday

Let’s talk about your day.

You wake up, probably scroll through your phone for a bit, get out of bed, take a shower, and throw on some clothes. Breakfast? Maybe. Then you head out—school, work, errands—your day starts rolling. You cross paths with people: the fruit vendor on the corner, the guy delivering packages, the bus driver, your classmates or coworkers. After a long day, you head back home, exhausted, eat, unwind, and finally crash into bed.

Sounds pretty ordinary, right? But here’s the thing: your ordinary day is packed with evidence of God’s love and His grace, all because of what Jesus has done for you.

The Wonder in the Mundane

We often think purpose is found in the “big” moments—getting that degree, nailing that project, or doing something that feels important. But what about the rhythms of daily life—the small things we take for granted, like brushing our teeth, walking to class, or grabbing coffee with a friend?

Here’s the truth: Jesus didn’t die just to redeem the “big” moments in your life. He died to redeem all of you—your spirit, soul, and body—and every single one of your days.

We’ve drawn a false line between what we think as ‘spiritual’ activities and what we think are non-spiritual activities. This is a line that God didn’t create, by the way, and this makes us put God in a box and think or talk about Him only when we think we’re doing something spiritual. We isolate Him and relegate Him to the background of our daily lives but He’s there too, because all things were made BY Him and FOR Him and TO Him (Romans 11:36, Colossians 1:16)—including all our daily experiences and activities in life.

I feel like this is why we often live out our lives suffering from a sense of purposelessness. We don’t see any meaning in the things we do on a day to day basis and wonder what the point of it all, is. But God wants to redeem our daily life experiences and heal our sense of purposelessness and it starts with seeing that God’s purpose in all of life is Christ. Remember the earlier scripture, “…all things were made BY Him and FOR Him and TO Him.”

So can we flip our daily lives by seeing what God actually says and not assume we know what He wants, by our limited minds. In Deuteronomy 6:6-7, God paints this beautiful picture of how He wants to be part of even the smallest moments in our lives:

These words that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

It’s like God is saying, “Hey, I’m here—in your every moment. When you wake up. When you’re walking to class. When you’re hanging out at home. When you’re about to fall asleep. I’m with you.”

What’s even more amazing? God promises that living with this awareness of Him turns your days into “days of heaven on earth” (Deuteronomy 11:21).

Talking about the Lord Jesus and His grace when we sit at home and when we walk along the road, when we lie down and when we get up. Aren’t these super natural and mundane things to do? Yet, God says if we live all of our lives in the consciousness of His grace, those activities are no longer natural activities but become redeemed by Him and are infused with supernatural depth and purpose. This is how we enjoy multiplied days and really good days that feel like days of heaven on earth! How cool is that?!

Jesus Gets It

Think about Jesus. He spent thirty years of His life in a tiny, 'insignificant' town called Nazareth. Thirty years! We don’t hear much about his growing up years. We hear about his birth, about his relocating to Egypt for a couple of years, about returning to their country and settling in another city. We hear about him and his family traveling to Jerusalem for an event. But that’s it. He wasn’t performing miracles or preaching to crowds during that time—He was living a regular, human life. Working as a carpenter. Spending time with His family. Walking through the same daily rhythms you and I go through.

Why does this matter? Because when Jesus lived those 30 “ordinary” years, I believe he lived it while thinking about how He was experiencing life as we would experience it today and by His death on the Cross, He redeemed every ordinary moment of your life. He reclaimed the beauty and purpose and worth of our daily lives so that we can enjoy living life each day—not only in the grand moments, but in the little, seemingly insignificant ones. By His death, burial and resurrection, Jesus restored eternal meaning to the mundane. He redeemed it so we would live lives that aren’t wasting away but live every day in the consciousness of God’s smile - His grace and goodness shining over us.

Now, because of His finished work on the Cross, our daily lives—yes, even the boring, repetitive stuff—can be filled with the wonder of God’s grace. We get to live with a spring in our steps and sparkle in our eyes! We get to live with a life full of zest, vibrancy, joy, purpose! We get to enjoy days of heaven on earth! We get to life not in doom and gloom and negative vibes that try to choke us, but blissfully immersed in the consciousness of God’s love for you.

Grace in Every Moment

Romans 12:1 (MSG) puts it perfectly:

Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.

Catch that? Embracing what God does for you—not striving, not achieving, but simply receiving His unearned, unmerited love and grace demonstrated by the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross and now expressed in many ways—is the best thing you can do.

The greatest expressions of God’s grace is in the spiritual blessings we’ve received in Christ—forgiveness of all our sins, the gift of righteousness (right standing with God), unconditional acceptance into God’s family, new life and victory over sin and death and all the beautiful blessings of redemption that we now have in Christ.

Because of these spiritual blessings we now have in Christ, we can now experience God’s grace in every part of our daily life—in the kindness of the bus driver who waited an extra second for you to hop on, in the smile of the vendor who asked how your day was, in the strength you feel after a good night’s sleep, or the laughter you share with a friend.

Even the things you rarely think about—like the firmness of the ground beneath your feet—remind you of Christ as your solid foundation. The breeze that brushes your face? A whisper of God’s quiet presence, working within you even when life feels chaotic.

Seeing Life Through His Love

Isaiah 30:18 says, “The Lord longs to be gracious to you…to show you compassion.” That’s God’s heart for you—He loves to bless you, to shower you with kindness, to overwhelm you with grace. Every. Single. Day. When you live with this awareness, everything changes. You start seeing God’s love in every little detail of your day:

  • The hug from your sibling that warms your heart.
  • The quiet moment when you realize you’re stronger than you were yesterday.
  • The way the sun feels on your face or the sound of rain tapping on your window.

These aren’t just random events; they’re expressions of God’s goodness, reminding you that He’s with you in every moment.

Your Best Life Is Already Here

How would you describe your best life? Have 10 million followers on TikTok and traveling the world and living chic as an influencer? Cute. But what If I told you that God’s best life for you isn’t about chasing some grand achievement or waiting for the “next big thing.” It’s about living in the now and how does he describe it? Loving life, seeing good days and enjoying days of heaven on earth—fully aware of His amazing grace overflowing in and around you, fully conscious of His love! How cool is that?!

2 Corinthians 9:8 (TPT) says:

Yes, God is more than ready to overwhelm you with every form of grace, so that you will have more than enough of everything—every moment and in every way.

That’s the kind of life Jesus has redeemed for you: a life where every moment, no matter how small, overflows with purpose, joy, and the beauty of His love. Even right now, God is powering all grace towards you in excess! Way more than you need—for every time and for everything.

Pause and See

So, here’s a thought: next time you’re brushing your teeth, walking to work, or even just breathing in and out—pause. Take a second to remember that God’s grace is at work in you and around you. You’re not just living; you’re living redeemed.

This is what it means to have “days of heaven on earth.” It’s not about escaping your routine but seeing God’s hand in every part of it. It’s about seeing that you’re deeply loved, fully redeemed, and wonderfully held by a loving Father who fills even the smallest moments of your day with His endless grace.

Check these out, I think you'll enjoy them!

Flip The Script On Education: A Reflection In Celebration of the International Day of Education 2025

Image from Freepik Happy International Day of Education!  On today's episode of Flip The Script, we're flipping the script on education, in honour of the International Day of Education and we're doing that by shattering the myth that education only happens in schools and classrooms. I believe in holistic, out-of-school and transformative education that changes us and empowers us to change the world and I believe this is God’s heart for education. Education doesn't only happen in schools and classrooms but in all of daily life, and we should never confine or limit education to that.  My case study today is one of the most inspiring young people I’ve ever learned about: 19-year-old Gitanjali Rao who’s a science enthusiast and an inventor and already invented her first science-b...

What’s Eating You?

Photo source: Stockcake What Are You Eating? What's Eating You? A slow meditation for those who want to be nourished, not just inspired. Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about food —but not just the kind that fills your stomach, but the kind that fills your soul. My dad used to say something I’ll never forget: “You can use good food to cure sicknesses.” It was wisdom passed down—his parents believed it. My mom and her parents too. They all knew the power of nourishment. They believe that if you eat well, your body naturally gets to heal, strengthen, and thrive. They knew this well and they lived by it. And it got me thinking: But what if the same is true for your soul? What if some of the fear, shame, anxiety, or spiritual fatigue you're feeling aren’t just about sin or stress or burnout—but about what we’ve been feeding or not feeding on ? Or what we’ve been starving from ? Or worse… what’s been poisoning us ? I’m learning that you can tell a lot about your spir...

Even Jesus Cooked Too: Meals Are Spiritual Spaces Where Jesus Meets Us

Photo source: ChatGPT Craving a Favorite Meal There’s something deeply satisfying about watching your favorite meal being made. The anticipation builds as you imagine the aroma, the texture, the first bite. I’ve found myself craving a favorite dish so intensely that I traveled a distance just to enjoy it. But that craving—that hunger—is more than just physical. It’s a mirror of something spiritual, something eternal. I think about how Jesus, my Lord and Savior, also cooked. That’s still such a beautiful, humbling thought to me. Even Jesus Cooked Too Did you know that Jesus made breakfast for His disciples after His resurrection? John 21 tells us that when the disciples had gone back to fishing, Jesus stood on the shore. H...
